Dr. Mayu Nomura-Iida, DMA, NCTM
Mayu has been teaching piano performance and music theories to many students in various age groups from 5 years old to the senior, and everyone in between. Her teaching experience began in 2000 when she was attending the University of Nevada, Reno for the Bachelor’s degree in piano performance, and then she decided to pursue the Master’s degree in Music Performance. After teaching at UNR for ten years, she went back to school and completed her doctorate degree at the University of Arizona, majoring in piano performance and minoring in music education with an emphasis on piano pedagogy. In addition to her teaching career, she is active as a soloist and chamber artist and has appeared in many events including Artown, master classes, Reno Chamber Orchestra Competition, University of Nevada Orchestra concerts, and Toccata Symphony Orchestra concerts.
As an active member of the Northern Nevada Music Teachers Association, she is committed to educating music lovers in the community and sharing the love of music. Her approach to teaching is unique, combining the traditional teaching method with a coaching approach. Her studio is always filled with joy, enthusiasm, and a lot of laughter. Mayu is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music recognized by the Music Teachers National Association.
In 2018, she founded the Reno-Tahoe Piano Competition in partnership with Teklus, LLC to celebrate young pianists with the mission to foster young talents and nurture musical growth in the community.
In 2023, she relocated to Melbourne, Australia to continue her teaching career and to pursue new opportunities in a new country.
